Minutes:

The Principal Planning Officer presented the report to Members.

The Head of Community Services, representing the authority as the applicant, addressed the Committee.  He highlighted the proposed state of the art facility which would improve the health and wellbeing of residents, sitting in a woodland setting with a first class building design consisting of wood elements to reflect the National Forest.  He advised that the proposal met the Council’s need to reduce its carbon footprint and no statutory objections had been received

Councillor S Gillard, adjoining ward member, addressed the Committee.  He informed Members that he was in full support of the proposals as it would provide a fantastic new facility for the people of the district.  He was also pleased that the new site would benefit the access road into Whitwick with fewer vehicles travelling into the village which in turn would improve air quality.  His only concern was the name of the facility as he felt it should reflect the fact that it was situated in Whitwick and not Coalville.

In determining the application, the majority of Members were in support of the proposals and acknowledged the consultation responses of support from existing users of the leisure services, local residents in Coalville and the wider communities.

It was moved by Councillor D Harrison and seconded by Councillor J Hoult.

The Chairman then put the motion to the vote.  A recorded vote being required the voting was as detailed below.

RESOLVED THAT:

The application be permitted in accordance with the recommendation of the Interim Head of Planning and Infrastructure.
