An urgent decision is required so that our claims to come into payment at the same time as other districts, to ensure that our claimants are not financially disenfranchise from self-isolating. If the NWL wait until the cabinet report, the time opportunity will have passed for those who should be isolating now.

The matter will be formally approved at Cabinet on 23/03. This decisions spans the gaps between then and now.

The changes relax some of the criteria and increase eligibility for more numbers of claimants. The intent being to try to encourage more claimants to self-isolate, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to do so due to financial reasons.

The original decision was made under emergency powers and did not include enough flexibility for Officers to make the above change without further approval. Other partners have agreed this at an officer level.
