The Council comprises 38 councillors who all meet at least six times a year.
The main purpose of the Council is:
- To appoint the Leader of the Council
- To approve the Constitution and any amendments to it
- To determine the policies that set the framework within which the district council carries out its functions
- To set the district council’s budget and Council Tax
