Report of the Strategic Director of Place

Presented by the Housing, Property and Customer Services Portfolio Holder

The Housing, Property and Customer Services Portfolio Holder presented the report, including a statement from a member of the public in support of the recommendations.

It was moved by Councillor A Woodman, seconded by Councillor R Blunt and

RESOLVED THAT:

1)     The property at 17 Ashby Road, Moira be declared as surplus to the Council’s needs.

2)     The property for disposal in accordance with the provisions that apply to property that has been registered as an asset of community value be agreed to market.

3)     Authority be delegated to the Director of Place in consultation with the Director of Resources and the Portfolio Holder for Housing, Property and Customer Services to carry out the marketing of the property and agree all necessary agreements to affect a sale of the property.

Reason for decision: Holding properties which are neither used for the delivery of services or the generation of income is wasteful of public resources. Disposal of the asset is likely to generate funds that could be invested in other Council services. Disposal of surplus assets also minimises property holding costs. The decision to declare property surplus is a function of Cabinet.
